1. What price should I
ask for a PonkTV system?
The price you ask and sell the system
hardware is up to you. The same for any
installation or future maintenance
services you provide. However, the
PonkTV Software and the software
packages installed with a PonkTV System
are generally open source. A standard
rule of thumb for open source software
is that you may only sell the software
for the cost of distribution.
2. What on-site
configuration is needed?
PonkTV is an Internet application and
is recommended to be installed behind a
firewall. PonkTV basic operations do
not need any on-site firewall
configuration. However; to allow
advanced options to operate and to get
the best performance the on-site
firewall should be configured.
Configuration simply involves opening
TCP/UDP ports used by PonkTV installed
software. Please consult the PonkTV
User Guide for further
information.
3. What Hardware is
required for PonkTV?
PonkTV is developed to run on a
low-cost AMD processor based Wal-Mart
PC. Review the specifications on a
low-cost Wal-Mart PC for a set of
current basic hardware requirements for
PonkTV. PonkTV does not require a
mouse, keyboard, speakers, or a
monitor.
In addition to the basic computer
system you need:
- nVidia compatible graphics card
with TV OUT (AGP recommended).
- IRMAN infrared receiver.

4. How do I get the
PonkTV software?

5. What should be
included with a PonkTV System?
You should include the PonkTV Install
and Package CDs. The PonkTV Install CD
is all that is needed to reinstall and
configure PonkTV.
6. What is the
licensing for PonkTV CDs?
The PonkTV system/CDs uses several
software packages under various
licenses. PonkTV is a Linux distro
which allows for copying and
distribution. Review the PonkTV licensing
page for further information.
7. I want to add my own
Logo to the PonkTV screen?
You can add a custom logo on the PonkTV
screen. Space has been left on the
upper right corner of the screen for a
custom logo. See the developers FAQ
for more information.
8. I want to use
different hardware can these changes be
made?
The PonkTV developers FAQ
gives hints on how other hardware
devices, such as graphics cards or IR
receivers, can be configured. Also
PonkTV is based on the Linux operating
system and can be custom configured
easily with different hardware after
installation.
9. Is there a faster
way to install PonkTV?
You can use a developers install option
in the PonkTV makefile,
makefile-ponktv, to install a
non-configured PonkTV. After
configuration you can make a disk image
which can be directly copied.
10. Can I create and
distribute my own computer videos?
This is what PonkTV is all about.
Letting people distribute their content
without enormous cost of broadcasting
or Internet bandwidth. Use your
expertise in your own promotional TV
show and distribute it with PonkTV.
