What is PonkTV?

PonkTV is a server for your TV. It allows downloading of various media (music, videos, flash, web pages, games, and programs) from P2P networks and other internet servers for viewing on a TV controlled by a TV remote. It requires a dedicated computer with hard-drive, CD-ROM, sound card, IR infrared receiver, Graphics card with TV-OUT, and network connection. It is designed for buyer assurance (brand-named hardware) and for installation and operation by non-technical users.

What is PonkTV Index?

PonkTV Index is a web site designed for viewing on a TV. It lists links to other sites also designed for TV viewing. If you know of a link you would like to be included on PonkTV Index, visit with a computer www.ponktv.com and under Support Discussion Forum post the link with a short description.

Can I view internet web pages using PonkTV?

Yes, however, most web pages are designed for viewing on a computer not on a TV. Computer web pages will usually be partially blocked because text has to be enlarged for TV viewing and difficult to navigate because of a large number of links. Most computer web pages are designed to provide a lot of information which is best viewed by a computer. Do you really want to access all the information on the internet using your TV.

How do I create web pages for PonkTV?

Web pages for PonkTV are the same as any other web pages. They are just formatted for TV viewing. Web pages need to limit text and links to make viewing and navigation easy. Web pages can provide info if properly formatted for TV viewing - TV schedules, newspaper like cartoons, sound-bite news, flash videos, rating type web pages, web page polls, and more.

What type of formatting is best?

Here are some guide lines to follow when creating PonkTV web pages.

PonkTV is configured to display 800x600 pixels. Since PonkTV is not designed for horizontal scrolling all pages should be smaller than 600 pixels in width. PonkTV does allow for vertical scrolling both for text and links. However it does not have the line scrolling you expect when using a computer. Design pages so they scroll nicely page by page for better viewing.

PonkTV navigation scrolls though each link until you come to the link you want to press. To provide good navigation, design pages with this in mind. Keep links to a minimum possible and the most active links at the beginning.

Text is best viewed in 24 point font size. You can sharpen fonts for better viewing by selecting contrasting font and background color.
